cold. she was cold. bundling up the blanket around her she tried to sink further into the couch.
she was sitting in her favourite chair in her favourite corner of her home. from the chair she could see out the window and down over the street all the way to the park beyond. behind her rose up a tall bookshelf filled with worn covers, telling the stories she knew by heart. the characters in the books felt like her friends, and gazing over the spines, their whispers and calls floated through her mind.
it was the place she turned when she felt overwhelmed by whatever she was feeling. be it happy, sad, anxiousness, worry. this little corner with the floral couch was her sanctuary. today it was nerves that brought her. her hands gripped a warm mug of coffee and she sipped it and thought. thought about the new beginning that awaited her in the morning. she was starting a new job. not just any job, but a great new job. in a bookstore. she worried that she wouldn't make friends with the new books that filled the shelves. that if she did she would be heartbroken every time a book left the store. silly. she was being silly.
the store was in town, just across the road from a delightful cafe. it was a narrow and dull looking store but the moment you stepped through the door, you were transported somewhere magical. and she was going to work there!
